Detailed Course Description
This course will provide education to clinicians, especially those practicing in primary care and outpatient settings, related to diagnostic criteria for eating disorders and the epidemiology, etiology and prognosis of these illnesses. Screening measures, including tips for conducting a patient interview, and specific tools to assess eating disorder behaviors and risk will also be reviewed. Common practices for weight monitoring procedures that may be useful for clinicians will be discussed. Additionally, information will be provided about medical and psychiatric comorbidities and lab abnormalities seen in persons with eating disorders. A very brief overview of pharmacological treatment options will be covered. Additional information on medication is covered in part 2 of this mini-series, titled, “Psychopharmacology of Eating Disorders.”
